West High School seeking nominations for Wall of Recognition

West High School seeking nominations for Wall of Recognition
Posted June 21, 2017

Wauwatosa West High School is currently seeking nominations for its Wall of Recognition now through August 17, 2017! Nominees selected for induction will be honored during a ceremony in November of this year.

The Wall of Recognition, which debuted in November 2016, is designed to inspire current and future Wauwatosa West students to dedicate themselves to lives of accomplishment and good character through the honoring of notable alumni.

The intent is that people highlighted on the Wall of Recognition will be seen as role models for current students. Additionally, this creates the opportunity to celebrate the successes of the school's alumni.

Nominations can be made in just a few minutes by filling out THIS FORM.

The school’s first inductees were honored during an all-school assembly in November 2016. They include:

-        Mason Morris, a 1985 graduate who spent 25 years as a U.S. Air Force officer, then achieved the rank of colonel and served in many key positions including Military Aide to the Vice President, commander of Dover Air Force Base’s 5,000 personnel and Director of International Security Operations at the Department of State.

-        Dr. Katie Wilson, a 1977 graduate who was appointed by President Obama as Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Sciences at the United States Department of Agriculture in 2015. Prior to joining the USDA, Dr. Wilson spent 23 years as a school nutrition director in three Wisconsin school districts, served as Executive Director of the National Food Service Management Institute and as President of the School Nutrition Association. Dr. Wilson is considered an international expert and champion for child nutrition and wellness.

-        Dr. Michael Volz, a 1976 graduate who received a partial academic scholarship as well as a golf scholarship to a school in South Carolina for one year. He went on to attend the Medical College of Wisconsin, trained in International Medicine at the University of Miami and furthered his training as an Allergy/Asthma/Immunology specialist. Dr. Volz is in private practice in Denver, Colorado and has served as President of the Colorado Medical Society, testified at the Colorado State Legislature on various healthcare bills and has been centrally involved in developing medical policies in healthcare.

The original Wall of Recognition selection committee established criteria to ensure recognition of a broad cross-section of achievers. Five categories of achievement were established for selecting inductees for the Wall of Recognition:

• Professional
• Entertainment
• Science/Technology
• Community Service
• Entrepreneur/Industrial

The above categories were created to serve as general guidelines in the selection process. It is not mandatory that candidates for induction represent each of the above categories. The categories are meant to ensure that those selected come from a broad cross-section of achievers.

The goal is to honor individuals who have made a difference, who have succeeded, and people who have given unselfishly to make the world a better place. If a candidate is not selected in the year in which they are nominated, it is not necessary to resubmit another application. All nominees are reviewed each year.

On behalf of Wauwatosa West High School, we thank you for your interest in the Wall of Recognition.

The deadline for nominations is August 17th, 2017.
