A new feature of the school system this year is free breakfast for all students in all Bartow County schools. The breakfast is funded through a U.S. Department of Agriculture program called Provision 2, which takes into account the percentage of eligibility for free and reduced lunch.
“You can apply by school or by district, and we applied by district,” Dye said. “Therefore, we were accepted into the program due to the number of students we have who are eligible for free and reduced lunch.”
The “typical school breakfast” includes two grains, a fruit and a choice of milk or juice, and a meat and grain could be substituted, Dye said.
“We are thrilled to offer the program to our students because studies show eating breakfast reduces absenteeism and helps to increase student achievement,” she said.
AHS serves breakfast from 7:30 - 8:10.
