Graduation Requirements

Beginning with the 2008-2009 freshmen class there will only be one graduation diploma. The requirements for a Georgia High School diploma are different than the admission requirements for a four year college or university. Students need to carefully select courses if they plan to attend a four year university in the fall following high school graduation.

Diploma Requirements: 23 credits

4 English Credits

4 Math Credits

4 Science Credits

3 Social Studies Credits (4 classes totaling 3 credits)

1 Credit Health/Personal Fitness

3 CTAE/Foreign Language or Fine Art Credits

4 Elective Credits

 

Graduation Requirements are different than College Admission requirements!

Georgia doesn’t require two years of the same foreign language BUT 4 year colleges and universities do! Georgia doesn’t require upper level sciences but 4 year colleges and universities do!

 

Elective Pathways

The freshman class of 2012-2013 will be expected to complete an Elective Pathway prior to graduation. This will include three (3) classes within the same area:

Modern Languages                            Construction

Visual Arts                                       Education

Performing Arts                               Engineering: Graphic Design

Agriscience                                      JROTC

Agricultural Mechanics                     Personal Service Occ. (Cosmetology)

Administrative/Info. Support           Therapeutic Services- Nurs.

Small Business Development               Academic Pathway

 

 

GRADING SCALE:

A= 90-100         C= 70-79           F=69 or below

B= 80-89         

 

HOPE SCHOLARSHIP

HOPE Requirements continue to change and will continue to change prior to graduation in 2016. Some changes you need to know include:

a.)  Students graduating under the diploma plan (like Bartow County) must have a 3.0 GPA.

b.)  If students fall below the 3.0 GPA in college they may only regain HOPE one time.

c.)  The HOPE Scholarship will not pay for remedial or developmental courses.

d.)  There is a 7 year limit (with stipulations) to receive HOPE.

e.)  Students graduating in 2016 must pass at least 3 courses from a list of academically rigorous courses in order to meet the requirements to be a HOPE scholar.

f.)  Award amounts:

a.)  Payment amount for private colleges is $3,600 (as of 6/2011)

b.)  Payment amount for public colleges and universities can be located on GAcollege411. Org on the HOPE Program Changes page.

Zell Miller Scholarship (New Program)- Students must meet all requirements to be eligible for the HOPE scholarship plus:

a.)  Graduate with a grade point average of at least 3.7 as calculated by the Georgia State Finance Commission and having received a score of at least 1,200 combined critical reading score and math score on a single administration of the SAT or ACT score at least 26 or

b.)  Graduated as the valedictorian or salutatorian

c.)  A student must maintain a 3.3 GPA in college to maintain the Zell Miller Program.

HOPE Grant is only available for students seeking a certificate or diploma at a branch of the Technical College System of Georgia or a unit of the University System of Georgia. The HOPE Grant will pay the HOPE Grant Award Rate.
