Dear Parents/Guardians:

I hope that you had an enjoyable and restful summer. We are very excited about the 2017-18 school year. As you can see our joint construction project with the town is almost complete. We anticipate being able to occupy the building at the latest after the holiday break. Your children will be learning in a state of the art facility, which is very exciting! I will keep you posted as the project draws to a close.

Our Back to School Night/Meet the Teacher Night is scheduled for grades Pre K-5 on September 27, 2017 and September 28, 2017 for grades 6-8. Please save these evenings on your calendar. Also please note that September 29, 2017 is a one session day.

Please alert the main office if your phone number has changed since last year, it is very important to keep our records up to date in case of an emergency. Please preview our Facebook page (Guttenberg School District), for up to the date school information. You can easily access this page via our website, www.alkschool.org.

In an effort to go “green” I am pleased to announce that students in grades 2-8 will have chromebooks in their classrooms for daily use. This will not only prepare your children for the 21scentury skill snecessary but help the environment with eliminating the amount of paper used. Each student will have their own school email address and drive on ‘Google’ so they can save their documents. All of the staff will be using Google email as well. Please note that you can email any teacher by using their first initial, last name @alkschool.org (example- mrosenberg@alkschool.org).

In an effort to keep our students as safe as possible on their way to and from school, we will be instituting a ‘helping hands’ program. We will be asking for parent/guardian volunteers to participate. We want students to know that there are ‘safe zone’s set up in the event that they feel unsafe in their travels to and from school. More information will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

We will continue our efforts to host parental programs throughout the school year to continue to bridge the gap between the school and the community. Please when possible join us for these events, your children love to see you at their school participating. With your help we are looking forward to a very successful and safe school year.

As always, I look forward to meeting you and your children. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions or concerns throughout the school year.

I look forward to an amazing year with your children!

Educationally Yours,

Michelle Rosenberg, Superintendent
