National Junior Honor Society , or NJHS is a worldwide organization that consists of many chapters in middle schools (grades 6-8). Selection is based on five criteria: citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship and character. Members must maintain a high grade point average (the national minimum is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and become good citizens (by participating in service projects). The NJHS requires some sort of service to the community, school, or other organizations. The NJHS offers projects to help students meet the required service hour total monthly. H.Y.P.E. - Helping Youth Pursue Excellence After School Homework Program
Welcome to H.Y.P.E., an academic assistance program funded by the Cape Henlopen School District. The primary focus of the program is to assist students with homework and other assignments.
Students meet from 3-5pm Mondays and Wednesday immediately after school. A district bus provides transportation home.
Delaware certified teachers offer academic assistance and monitor the completion of homework assignments and projects. The program is not a replacement for parental monitoring of homework completion. It is designed to help students who may need additional help with concepts. Students receive a snack prior to completing assignments. They will also participate in a Let's R.A.P. (Report Academic Progress) discussion each day. The purpose is to encourage students to think about daily skills and preparations needed to be successful in the classroom. Students will follow the Cape Henlopen Code of Conduct at all times. Students who do not obey the code consistently will be asked to leave the program. If you are interested or have questions please contact Mr. Maedler @ email@example.com
Math League - 7th & 8th grades
All interested mathematics students are invited to join the Beacon Middle School Grade 7 or 8 Math teams. Our teams participate in 4 county meets and the State Math Invitational Meet held in Dover during the Spring. Beacon Middle School Math League practice sessions are usually held one-two times per month, with most practices taking place in the afternoon from 3pm - 4:15pm. Grade 8 will sometimes meet at lunch to avoid conflicts with after school sport practices. Practices not only help in reviewing needed math skills, but also help the coaches determine who will represent the school at each meet. For additional information please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org ; email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
They meet every Thursday, the entire school year, after school for a few hours and design, edit, and work on the yearbook and yearbook activities. The 2015-2016 yearbooks will be completely student created and produced, from taking the pictures, editing them and creating the layout of the pages. Presently we have students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade representing their grades and working hard on the yearbook. Students will also start to learn how to use Photoshop and other digital photo editing as well as photographing techniques to catch that once in a lifetime photo! Students interested should see Ms. Walsh or email her at email@example.com
Student Council is an important part of our school. We need students who are motivated and energetic to help make a difference at Beacon Middle School. Each year, two representatives from each grade will be selected to represent their class and communicate with the student body about upcoming events. Students this year will help run events like Karaoke Night, a school dance as well as other activities to help raise money for our school’s PBS committee. Students who are members of student council are also eligible to run for office in the State of Delaware. Come help make a difference at Beacon Middle School! Please ask Mr. Barbarita for details and to fill out an application. firstname.lastname@example.org
