Those students who live within boundaries of Region V can be eligible for services from our program. A student's eligibility according to the state of Texas, is determined by the "educational significance" of a hearing impairment.
"Deafness means a hearing impairment that is so severe that the child id impaired in the processing linguistic information through hearing, with or without modification, that adversely affects a child's educational performance. Hearing impairment means an impairment in hearing, whether permanent or fluctuating, that adversely affects a child's educational performance that is not included under the definition of deafness."

Provision of Services
Parents may request that services commence by contacting the student's home school district. A student's eligibility will be determined by a comprehensive assessment performed by a certified diagnostician within the home school of the student.
Entrance into deaf education placements require Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee Meetings. This committee is comprised of teachers, administrators, parents, diagnosticians, and other relevant personnel. It is this committee that determines a student's eligibility for the program, and the appropriate placement for a student.
