STAR to STEAM

STAR to STEAM

Eagle Nest Elementary and River Oaks Middle Schools were the recipients of a $1.85 million dollar arts grant.  This grant was awarded by the US Department of Education and is 100% funded by the federal government-no local funds are used. The STAR to STEAM grant stands for Science, Technology, Arts, and Reading in the early grades and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math in the intermediate and middle school grades.  Because of this grant, our students have increased opportunities in the arts and with technology.  In the 2015-16 school year, 90 iPads were added to our collection at EES.  Next year, we are planning to steadily increase our iPad numbers.  We will also begin implementing the STEAM curriclum.

Bob Doster, a professional sculptor of metals, visited EES students this May.  He and the students used a plasma torch to create a metal sculpture that will be unveiled in the fall of 2016.  Below is Bob Doster sculpting with a second grader from EES.
