Substitute Application

Substitute Application

Thank you for your interest in the position of substitute teacher with the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District.  Our district offers an “on call as needed” position to our substitute teachers at a flat rate of $95.00 per day.  There is a required criminal history approval process and Mantoux test.  We will also be checking your references listed on the application.

A prospective substitute teacher must have completed 60 college credits, must be cleared by the New Jersey Criminal History Review Unit, and be officially approved by our Board of Education before submitting an application for a New Jersey substitute teacher certificate.  Substitute certificates cost $125 and are valid for 5 years.  To apply for a substitute certificate, you must:

  • Complete the application and bring it to the Office of the Superintendent (district office) at 1824 Dr. Dennis Foreman Dr., Mays Landing, NJ  08330.
  • Request an official college transcript be mailed to the Office of the Superintendent.
  • Be interviewed by a district administrator (after reference checks are completed and after we have received your official college transcript).
  • After your interview with an administrator, call Leigh Hutter in the Board Office at (609) 625-1399 to make arrangements for the criminal history approval process (cost is $78.20).
  • Once your criminal history approval letter is received by you and brought to the district office, you will be officially board approved at one of our regularly scheduled Board of Education meetings.
  • You will receive written notification of your board approval, with additional instructions as to when to report to the district office to complete the hiring process.
  • You should also make arrangements with a private physician for a Mantoux test.

Applicants that already hold a substitute certificate or New Jersey teaching certificate must also be Board approved.

  • Complete the application and bring it to the Office of the Superintendent along with your original copy of a substitute certificate or a teaching certificate, your criminal history approval letter, and proof of a Mantoux test.  Please have your college forward an official transcript to the Office of the Superintendent.
  • After reference checks are completed and you are interviewed by a district administrator, you will be board approved.

Following approval, mandatory online training will be required.  In addition, all substitute teachers must work for our district more than 10 days per school year.  If you do not accept more than 10 assignments per school year, you will not be approved for the upcoming school year and you will be removed from our roster.

You will be notified by letter of your approval with additional instructions as to how to complete the hiring process.
