HHS Presents Its Black History Program

Hemingway High School held its annual Black History Program on Monday, February 26, 2018.   Presiding over the event was Zaria Thompkins while Aaron Parker led the Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence.    Johnovan Barkers provided the welcome and purpose of the ceremony, while Sasha Gibson introduced the guest speaker Mr. Kelvin Washington, a native of Hemingway and a former graduate of Hemingway High School.  Mr. Washington has held prominent positions during his notable career in law enforcement, including serving as a United States Marshal and Sheriff of Williamsburg County.  Music teacher Rick Gardner and Isaiah Mitchell played a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”  Three students also sang during the ceremony:  Kyra James, Inyzah Pressley, and Angela Brown.
