  • To request a session(s) for your campus, department, class or any other group comprised of (8) or more individuals contact carmen.garza@mcallenisd.net.
Session Guidelines:
  • Participants must be present throughout the scheduled session time.
  • Participants are NOT allowed in session 10 minutes after session begins.
  • No walk-ins allowed.
  • ASYNCHRONOUS ONLINE courses are self-paced and held online. Participants must have a computer w/Internet access. Session information will be sent to participants prior to session.
  • SYNCHRONOUS ONLINE courses are instructor facilitated courses held online. Participants must have a computer w/Internet access. Session information will be sent to participants prior to session.
  • Participants must bring a fully charged iPad or iPod Touch to iOS sessions.
  • LEVEL 1 - Beginner User; LEVEL 2 - Intermediate User; LEVEL 3 - Advanced User

Session Descriptions:

 

LEVEL 1

  • Blackboard Engage Level 1 - Participants will learn the basics and how to add content such as calendar events, news items, links, folders, documents, files, slideshows, homework and homework dropboxes. Length of session - 2 hours.

  • Google Tools for Teaching and Learning (SYNCHRONOUS ONLINE) - Explore a variety of Google Tools such as Google Docs, Google Maps, and Google Earth to promote collaboration among students and teachers. Learn how to integrate these and other Google tools into classroom instruction to maximize students learning. Length of session - 2 Hours.

 

  • Starfall ABC's and Learn to Read AppsStarfall ABCs App - motivates through positive reinforcement and play. Children delight as they see, hear, and interact with letters and sounds in words, sentences, and games. All children, and especially English language learners, benefit.

    Learn To Read App - Students will hear, touch, read and eventually master letter/sound relationships through a variety of engaging activities, movies, and songs. Length of session - 2 Hours. Participants will receive a class or teacher set of each App.

 

  • The Elements: A Vision of Exploration App - Of all the periodic table apps, there is only one which Stephen Fry described as “Alone worth the price of an iPad!”. The Elements: A Visual Exploration is not just a reference app, it is a rich and engaging story of the periodic table, told in words and pictures, and allowing teachers and students to experience the beauty and fascination of the building blocks of our universe in a way you've never seen before. Length of session - 2 Hours. Participants will receive a class set or teacher set of Apps.

 

  • Notability App - The best-selling note-taking app on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Notability is so powerful that it will transform how you work: sketch ideas, annotate documents, sign contracts, complete worksheets, keep a journal, jot travel notes, teach a class, make a presentation and much more. With iCloud support, your notes stay up to date on all your devices! Length of session - 2 Hours. Participants will receive a class set or teacher set of Apps.

 

  • iOS Apps - Elementary - This session is for those iPad/iPod Touch users who are ready to move beyond the basics. This is an exploratory session of available Apps geared for teaching and learning. We will discover tools that are available and help you scour the App store for new Apps. Length of session - 2 Hours.

 

  • Flip Your Classroom Level 1 - This session is for participants new to using a screen capturing app that allows you to capture your voice and handwriting to produce video lessons that you can share online.  Participants will also access district digital resource solutions and share other digital resources. Length of session - 2 Hours.

 

  • GarageBand for Music Teachers - Open a new door to creating music files with this diverse set of software instruments prerecorded loops and audio effects. Learn to use iTunes to import music from your CDs create playlists and find great music at different locations on the web. Length of session - 2 Hours.

 

  • iPod Touch for the Classroom - PreK-K teachers learn the instructional strategies necessary for teaching and learning with the iPod Touch. Participants will explore digital learning activities and resources. Length of session - 2 Hours. 


LEVEL 2

  • iOS District Apps 1 - Participants will learn how to use and integrate Pages, Keynote, and Numbers into their curriculum. (PARTICIPANT MUST HAVE PAGES, KEYNOTE, AND NUMBERS APPS INSTALLED ON THEIR IPAD). Length of session - 2 Hours.

  • iOS District Apps 2 - Participants will learn how to use and integrate iMovie and GarageBand into their curriculum. (PARTICIPANT MUST HAVE IMOVIE AND GARAGE BAND APPS INSTALLED ON THEIR IPAD). Length of session - 2 Hours.

  • Blackboard Engage Level 2 - Participants will learn how to add content (RSS Feeds, discussions, blogs and blog posts, online surveys, and online quizzes).  Length of session - 2 hours.

  • Creating Multimedia eBooks with Pages - Participants will learn to create a multimedia eBooks with Pages. Multimedia eBooks can include text, audio, and video and be viewable via an iOS Device or eReader. Length of session - 2 hours.

 

  • Flip Your Classroom Level 2 - Participants must be familiar with using a simple screen capturing app and be ready to move to an intermediate app called Explain Everything (you will receive the app redemption code before your scheduled session).  Participants will access district digital resource solutions and share other digital resources. Length of session - 2 hours. Participants will receive the Explain Everything app.

 

LEVEL 3

  • iTunes U Course Manager (ASYNCHRONOUS ONLINE) - Create your own courses for iPad. You get to share your classroom in a powerful new way, and your students get a rich, immersive learning experience using the iTunes U app for iPad. Length of session - 6 Hours.

  • iBooks Author - Participants will learn to create Multi-Touch textbooks — and just about any other kind of book — for iPad. With galleries, video, interactive diagrams, 3D objects, and more, these books bring content to life in ways the printed page never could.  Participant must have a Macintosh Computer with OSX 10.7.2 (Lion) and the free application iBook Author. IF YOU HAVE A MAC OS LAPTOP WITH 10.7.2 PLEASE BRING IT TO THE SESSION. Length of session - 2 Hours.
