Dorchester School District Two is working to prevent the spread of influenza as well as other respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. Here are our top tips for prevention:
- Get the flu vaccine
- WASH YOUR HANDS – frequently and for at least 20 seconds
- Get plenty of rest
- Eat nutritious foods
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
Flu is spread primarily by droplets when a person with the virus sneezes or coughs. Symptoms of flu include sudden onset of fever 100 degrees or greater, cough, headache, muscle aches, extreme tiredness, sore throat, and nasal congestion. If your child has these symptoms, please keep him/her home from school. Your student should not return to school until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
We encourage parents to visit the DHEC website at http://www.scdhec.gov/flu/ and CDC website https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm for excellent information on exclusion criteria and when you should contact your health care provider.
Thank you for everything you do to help us keep your child safe and healthy! Please contact the nurse's office if you have questions or concerns.
