WCSD Early Childhood Services provide children ages 3-5 with developmental screenings through Child Find. We provide evaluations, as necessary, and work collaboratively as a team with parents to develop individualized services across a full range of community-based and school-based options.
The first step is a developmental screening. For a child from birth to 2-1/2 years old, please contact South Carolina Babynet at 1-877-621-0865 for information regarding scheduling a developmental screening.
For a child ages 2-1/2 years old though 5 years old, not enrolled in a public school program, contact the Office of Special Services at 843-355-5533 to schedule a screening appointment for your child.
Child Find Screenings are held by WCSD on a regular basis at the Office of Special Services in Kingstree, S.C. (generally every second Friday of a given month) by a team consisting of a school psychologist, a speech/language therapist, and an early childhood special education teacher. Please bring the following forms to your appointment:
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Immunization Record
- Medicaid Card, if applicable
Parents must give written permission for screenings. An adult must accompany the child throughout the screening.
The team will complete:
- Vision and Hearing Screening
- Developmental Skills Screening
- Communication Skills Screening
- Review of all information gathered
Following the completion of the screening, the team will review the screening results, make recommendations, and schedule appointments with you if any follow up observations and/or evaluations are necessary. Please contact Jimmisha Mickens, Preschool Coordinator at 843-355-5533 if you have any questions or to schedule a screening.
