Students are required to do homework to practice working on skills and concepts and this practice supports their mastery of benchmarks.  Additionally, beginning in the fall of 2017, formative assessments including both homework and classwork, will count for 10% of a student’s course grade. Including formative assessment in the calculation of a grade emphasizes the importance of engaging in classwork, quizzes, and homework.  When formative work is included in a grade, there will be some teacher feedback on that work, which helps with student learning.  When students use homework for practice, they also improve their performance on common summative assessments.
