The Wauwatosa School District invites all Wauwatosa residents to attend one of five upcoming Community Workshops the District will host in October and November for the community to learn more about Wauwatosa Schools’ facilities’ needs.
In the interactive sessions, the District will share the work of the Facilities Advisory Committee, provide a status of District facilities, and ask the community to help the District prioritize needs.
The District formed the community-based Facilities Advisory Committee in February of 2017, with the approval of the Wauwatosa School Board, following the completion of a comprehensive study of facilities and classroom space of every building in the District, as directed by the District’s five-year 2016-2021 Strategic Plan and the objective to be sound stewards of resources. Discussion of such a study originally began during the Long Range Planning process in 2007.
The results of the facilities and classroom space study, conducted by Plunkett Raysich Architects, revealed three key challenges facing the community: Aging buildings with infrastructure/operational needs, buildings that are not fully accessible to all students and all families, and the need for modern learning environments reflective of the changes in education and the modern work environments and futures we are preparing students for.
As the Committee continues its work toward a final recommendation of facilities solutions to the Wauwatosa School Board, the Community Workshops are part of the District’s commitment to collect broad community input as we plan for the future of education in Wauwatosa. Residents are invited to participate in any one of workshops on the following dates:
- Tuesday, October 24th -- 7:00 p.m., Wauwatosa East High School
- Wednesday, October 25th -- 9:30 a.m., Hart Park Senior Center
- Wednesday, November 1st -- 4:30 pm., Longfellow Middle School
- Thursday, November 2nd -- 7:00 pm., Longfellow Middle School
- Tuesday, November 7th -- 7:00 p.m., Wauwatosa West High School
Data gathered will assist the District in the prioritization of needs and creation of a long-term Master Facilities Plan.
Residents are encouraged to learn more about the facilities planning process and the work of the Committee. A webpage with comprehensive information has been established at www.wauwatosaschools.org/community.
